savannah theatre
222, Bull Street, Savannah, GA 31401
The Savannah Theatre was designed by the renowned architect, William Jay, and opened its doors on 4th December 1818. Edwin Booth, the brother of John Wilkes Booth who assassinated Abraham Lincoln, played here. It is possible that John also did, but it is not certain. The theater has been damaged by fire on a number of occasions. The fire in 1948 resulted in the remodeling that you see today.
The Theatre is reputedly haunted and accounts of activity date back to 1895, when a Savannah Morning News article was published on May 5th detailing its ghosts. Apparitions include a female dressed in a white lace dress, a small child named Ben and shadow figures. However, other reported phenomena include the sounds of footsteps and voices, and visitors clothing being tugged whilst in the balcony area.
